Mediating Technologies | Tecnologías mediadoras

People frequently use various technologies to interpret the world around them. But also, it is through technology that humans have shaped the environment and their relationships with other living and nonliving beings. My interest in this topic is centered around works, whether cinematic or literary, that interrogate the ways different technologies, from water infrastructure projects to robots, help us humans to think about our role in our communities and local environments, as well as the world at large. Particularly, I examine how these works reveal the, often hidden and unforeseen, effects that technologies have in their role as mediators.

Las personas frecuentemente usan diversas tecnologías para interpretar el mundo que las rodea. Pero también, es a través de la tecnología que los seres humanos han moldeado el medio ambiente y sus relaciones con otros seres vivos y no vivos. Mi interés en este tema se centra en obras, ya sean cinematográficas o literarias, que cuestionen las diferentes formas en que la tecnología, desde proyectos de infraestructura hidráulica hasta robots, nos ayuda a los humanos a pensar sobre nuestro rol en nuestras comunidades y entornos locales, así como en el mundo en general. Particularmente examino cómo estas obras revelan los efectos, a menudo ocultos e imprevistos, que las tecnologías tienen en su papel mediador.
